Malcolm Bush

Malcolm Bush is a research fellow at Chapin Hall. His research interests include community reinvestment and economic development, particularly in low- and moderate-income communities. Before joining Chapin Hall, Dr. Bush was president of the Woodstock Institute, a nonprofit research center based in Chicago, where he directed research and policy projects aimed at bringing financial resources to lower-income and minority communities. Prior to his tenure at the Woodstock Institute, Dr. Bush was senior vice president of Voices for Illinois Children, where he supervised research and policy development related to urban educational reform, state tax reform, and child welfare reform. He has been a faculty member at both the University of Chicago’s School of Social Service Administration, where he taught social policy and research methods, and Northwestern University, where he taught urban affairs and education. His policy and research writings include Families in Distress: Public, Private, and Civic Responses, published by the University of California Press, 1988. Beyond the United States, he has supervised research projects with the New Economics Foundation in London and the International Center for Research and Policy on Childhood in Rio de Janeiro. Dr. Bush holds a B.A. in Modern History from Oxford University, an M.A. in American History and Economics from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Ph.D. in Social Psychology and Urban Policy from Northwestern University.
