Museum of Science and Industry: Developing a Research Agenda
Robert Goerge, Principal Investigator
2009
Chapin Hall is working with Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry (MSI) to develop a research agenda that will investigate the impact of MSI programs and their contribution to the overall goal of engaging students in science. The Museum has recently reorganized its approach to inspiring and motivating youth to pursue educational opportunities and careers in the fields of science and engineering. This campaign includes an overhaul of exhibit offerings and guest experiences, as well as the creation of the Center for the Advancement of Science Education (CASE). CASE education initiatives include professional development workshops for teachers; afterschool science clubs for elementary and middle school youth; and a youth development program that teaches teens about science, builds their public speaking skills, and exposes them to college-readiness programming. The final product will be a document, jointly produced, that articulates a multilevel research agenda that will guide future activities.
