Chapin Hall developed and maintains the Young Children in Chicago website for the Department of Family and Support Services. It provides information on the conditions of children ages 0–5 in Chicago communities, and is meant to serve as a planning tool for community organizations, churches, businesses, schools, and foundations, as well as city and state officials trying to address the needs of children in Chicago. Community Area Profiles track key indicator areas for 77 Chicago communities and the City of Chicago as a whole.
Those indicators include the following: demographic data on the entire population of Chicago children; health, disability, and health services data; data on the receipt of economic assistance; child welfare and foster care data; childcare and early education data; crime data; data from the Chicago Public Schools on the number of children for whom English is a second language; and data on afterschool program participation.
