Amy Dworsky, Elizabeth Barisik, Elissa Gitlow2014
This report presents the results of a baseline survey completed by 395 primarily African American girls in grades 9 through 11 who are participating in a federally funded evaluation of the Demoiselle-2-Femme (D2F) signature afterschool program. The purpose of the evaluation is to estimate the effects of program participation on a number of key behavioral outcomes including sexual activity, unprotected sex and teenage pregnancy. After providing some background information about teenage pregnancy, the federal funding source, and afterschool pregnancy prevention programs, we describe D2F’s signature afterschool program, explain the study design, and share the baseline survey results. We conclude with a discussion of the findings and some comments about next steps.
