Lee Ann Huang

Researcher

Lee Ann Huang, Researcher at Chapin Hall, is committed to actionable research in the child, youth, and family well-being field. Her work focuses on myriad programs and policies that aim to support children and families, including the prevention of child maltreatment, home visiting, early childhood education, sexual and reproductive health for young people, and programs for pregnant and parenting homeless youth. She has leveraged her quantitative and qualitative analysis skills, data collection expertise, and project leadership experience on a variety of research and evaluation projects. Ms. Huang is dedicated to principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion in her work. She recently completed two projects directly related to these tenets; the first is the Equity Study of the Doris Duke Fellowships for the Promotion of Child Well-Being, and the second is a tool to measure racial and ethnic bias in survey data. Ms. Huang’s work also prioritizes strategic dissemination of research evidence to ensure decision-makers receive accessible, actionable findings.

Ms. Huang’s current and recent projects cross myriad populations, programs, and research methods. She leads two projects in Chicago focused on young parents. The first is in partnership with the IL Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics examining community service gaps for pregnant and parenting homeless youth. The second is evaluating a pilot college coaching program for young parents. Ms. Huang is part of a team analyzing a national early childhood dataset focusing on the effects of teacher-student racial and ethnic concordance on stress and depression in the early childhood education workforce. Additionally, she is contributing to two projects focused on sexual and reproductive health for young people; one translates and disseminates evidence-based resources and the other is evaluating an educational program for youth in congregate care. Ms. Huang also spent over a decade managing the Doris Duke Fellowships for the Promotion of Child Well-Being, including its transition into the Child Well-Being Research Network. The Fellowships program engaged 120 fellows from diverse disciplines in a peer-learning network that fostered interdisciplinary thinking and collaboration while promoting actionable research.

Huang has a Master of Public Policy degree from the University of Chicago and a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Texas Christian University.
