Marina Duane

Research Fellow

Marina Duane is a Research Fellow at Chapin Hall at the University of Chicago. She leads rigorous mixed-methods evaluations of emerging interventions and established programs that serve vulnerable youth and families. Her research focuses on various victimization topics and the intersection of criminal justice and human services. She is currently the Principal Investigator (PI) for a mixed-methods evaluation of using telehealth technology to provide treatment for opioid use disorders in correctional settings and a co-PI of a multi-site study examining perceptions of justice among hard-to-reach and underserved domestic violence survivors.

Prior to coming to Chapin Hall, Duane was a Senior Research Associate at the Justice Policy Center of the Urban Institute where she led evaluations of multidisciplinary justice responses and provided technical assistance to local jurisdictions on implementing evidence-based practices and improving their policies and responses. Duane also worked in the United States and abroad on social policy issues. In Pittsburgh, PA, she worked for Allegheny County Department of Human Services, leading the research, design, and assessment of new programs for the county’s most vulnerable populations. Duane also worked at the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe in Kyiv, Ukraine, and managed a portfolio of 80 nonprofit organizations focused on ensuring human rights in the country’s prison system, protecting the rights of youth and people with disabilities, and ensuring the transparency and accountability of local authorities.

Duane holds a Master of International Development from the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and English from Dnipropetrovsk National University, Ukraine.
