Journal symposium on youth homelessness published
Compiles latest research to inform community actions
A special journal symposium on youth homelessness, guest edited by Dr. Matthew Morton of Chapin Hall, is now available on the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) website. Published in a special issue of HUD’s Cityscape: A Journal of Policy Development and Research, the symposium’s goal is to inform coordinated community responses to youth homelessness.
“A coordinated response, centered on data and evidence, has been important in addressing homelessness among other specific groups, like veterans,” said Morton. “Young people deserve that kind of approach. Drawing on this rich new body of research, communities and policy-makers should adapt to young people’s circumstances and preferences to effectively end youth homelessness.”
The symposium, Youth Homelessness: Research insights for coordinated community response, features articles on:
- Homelessness and housing experiences among LGBTQ young adults in seven U.S. cities
- Youth logics about engaging resources while unstably housed
- Linking homelessness vulnerability screening to housing placements and outcomes for youth
- Theory on identity preservation for young adults in supportive housing
- Predictors of running away from out-of-home care
- Developing a coordinated youth housing stability program for juvenile courts
- International commentaries from Australia and Canada
HUD’s goal with this open-access digital journal is to bring high-quality, original research on housing and community development issues to scholars, government officials, and practitioners. It is published three times a year.
