With each project we pursue, we assemble a team uniquely suited to meet the challenge of the work. These teams include subject matter experts in child well-being and public policy, as well as those with expertise in data management, IT, communications, and administrative functions.

Commitment to equity
Diversity is integral to designing and conducting research, collecting and analyzing data, and drafting policy solutions. Accordingly, Chapin Hall seeks to recruit, foster, and retain staff who are diverse in terms of their ability, age, ethnicity, gender identity, race, religion, and sexual orientation. Applying our Racial Equity Principles, we especially encourage Black, Latino/a, and American Indian applicants for Chapin Hall positions, as they can better represent the experiences and perspectives of families who are over-represented in child- and family-serving systems.
Additionally, in January 2022, Chapin Hall welcomed its first three Equity First fellows. These fellows have expertise in racial inequity, child well-being, public systems transformation, and community change. To expand the pool of applied researchers whose life experiences directly or more closely match those whose lives we seek to support, in Summer 2024, Chapin Hall launched its Equity First Summer Associates Program.

A Work from Anywhere Policy
Chapin Hall was founded in Chicago, but our staff work from across the country. We believe that inclusivity is the strongest foundation for impactful research and policy. Our fully remote operation underscores our commitment to flexibility, work-life balance, and to tapping into diverse talents from across the country. For our partners, it means greater access to experts who are where they are and who understand their unique operational climate. Our strong research technology capacity helps staff do their job from wherever works best for them.
While our staff work in separate places, Chapin Hall recognizes the importance of in-person opportunities for staff to build connections, create team cohesion and creativity, and foster a sense of belonging. Every year, staff engage in a minimum of two annual two-day “All Hall” convenings that feature shared learning, teamwork, and fellowship. Chapin Hall also provides robust technical support to make day-to-day connecting possible and easy. Chapin Hall’s Habitat Committee organizes regular social events online and in person to build community. Monthly themed happy hours, summer picnics, and winter ice skating are among the many activities throughout the year.
Staff members also have paid professional development opportunities every year to support their career growth.
