Jianyu Wang

Senior Researcher (Senior Data Engineer)

Dr. Jianyu Wang is a Senior Researcher (Senior Data Engineer) at Chapin Hall at the University of Chicago. Wang works primarily on the Multistate Foster Care Data Archive for the Center for State Child Welfare Data. His work for the Center includes administering and tuning the backend Oracle database, automating pieces of data processing, developing an online decision-making system, and designing and implementing new functions and features for the Center’s website. He also works with consultants for new web development and feature enhancement and has set up a machine learning server that uses algorithms to predict events. In addition to his work with the Center, Wang has also worked on numerous projects on foster care, residential care, and maltreatment in his time at Chapin Hall. His methodological experience includes geographic information systems, record linkage, several database frameworks, and scripting in a number of different languages.

Prior to joining Chapin Hall, Wang worked for a consulting firm with responsibilities for Oracle database design, performance tuning, development of procedures and packages using PL/SQL, and application development.

Wang has a PhD from the College of Education at The Ohio State University, a Master of Science in Human Performance from the Beijing Sports University, and a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Mathematics from Shandong University.
