Chapin Hall

Increasingly, policymakers, practitioners, and researchers are calling for interdisciplinary research that translates findings into practical recommendations for improving child, family, and youth well-being.  

This kind of research has the power to equip human service providers, program implementers, and policymakers with the information they need to transform systems to the benefit of families.  To respond to this need, Chapin Hall became the editorial home of the Journal of Child and Family Studies (JCFS) in January 2020, together with our partners at the Institute for Families in Society at the College of Social Work, University of South Carolina. The Journal is published by Springer.

This international, peer-reviewed forum focuses on individual, family, and community contexts that influence the behavioral health and well-being of children, adolescents, and their families. JCFS invites papers with a range of approaches and methodologies on the following topics: 

• Enhancing child, youth, young adult, parent, caregiver, and family functioning.  

• Prevention and intervention for social, emotional, or behavioral functioning in children, youth, and families. 
• Cumulative effects of exposure to adverse childhood events and risk, as well as assets and protective factors on behavioral health, development, and well-being.  
• Child abuse and neglect, housing instability, and homelessness. 

The journal, which was previously hosted by Dr. Nirbhay N. Singh (founder and inaugural editor), is now managed by Co-editors-in-Chief Anne Farrell, Director of Research at Chapin Hall, and Cheri Shapiro, Director for the Institute for Families in Society. 

“Chapin Hall is so pleased to serve as editorial home for the Journal of Child and Family Studies,” said Anne Farrell, Co-editor-in-Chief. “We aim for the journal to disseminate high quality research that can be readily translated into action in practice, policy, and continued knowledge development — priorities that are consonant with the work of Chapin Hall. We are also proud to partner with the Institute for Families to promote the application of evidence that can address the well-being of children, families, and communities.”
