Lee Ann Huang
Researcher
Lee Ann Huang is a Researcher at Chapin Hall with over 20 years’ experience evaluating programs and policies that promote child and family well-being and prevent child maltreatment. She also specializes in leadership development initiatives in social science research. She is dedicated to the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion in her work because it produces better evidence. She recently completed two projects directly related to improving equity. The first is the Equity Study of the Doris Duke Fellowships for the Promotion of Child Well-Being, and the second is a tool to measure racial and ethnic bias in survey data.
Huang directs the Research to Action (R2A) Grants program, funded by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation. The program supports interdisciplinary teams of researchers and their policy or practice-based partners as they use research to answer compelling questions to promote child well-being. Huang is also the co-chair of the newly established Child Well-Being Research Network, a collaborative network promoting child well-being and maltreatment prevention through interdisciplinary research that informs policy and practice. The Network grew out of the peer-learning network developed via the Doris Duke Fellowships for the Promotion of Child Well-Being, which Huang managed for 10 years.
Huang’s work also includes several evaluation projects, including the Community Parenting Support Saturation Program that aims to help three Illinois communities strengthen the local systems, strategies, and interventions that support parents in raising their young children and preparing them for school. She worked on the evaluation of the Infant/Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation Initiative, a pilot initiative designed to improve the skills of early childhood professionals who care for young children and their families in a range of settings, focusing on the home visiting component. Huang worked on a team evaluating the Altgeld-Riverdale Early Learning Initiative, a collaborative launched by BPI Chicago in collaboration with community-based organizations to build a support system for children aged birth to eight and their families in Chicago’s Altgeld-Riverdale community.
Huang’s previous projects at Chapin Hall include the evaluation of child abuse and neglect prevention initiatives in North Carolina and South Carolina as well as collaborating on the Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) Technical Assistance Coordinating Center.
Huang has a Master of Public Policy degree from the University of Chicago and a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Texas Christian University.
